Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence refers to our ability to recognise, manage and use our own emotions and the emotions of others.

It is a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way. (Multi-Health Systems Inc, 2011)

Emotional intelligence, or 'EQ' has a much greater impact on our success in our careers and lives than IQ.  IQ measures our intellectual, analytical, logical and rational abilities, which is great for passing exams (and scoring well on IQ tests!).  Yet we all know clever people with high IQ who struggle in their working lives and personal lives.  The reason is that they have low EQ - the common sense that enables us to get along with other people and the ability to cope with the inevitable challenges that work and life throw at us.

IQ has been found to predict between 1 and 20% of success in a given job, whereas EQ has been found to be directly responsible for between 27 and 45% of job success (R. K. Wagner, Intelligence, Training and Employment, American Psychologist, 52(10), (Oct 1997))

EQ-i 2.0 and EQ 360 are the family of emotional intelligence assessments created by Multi-Health Systems Inc.  They provide the workplace, leadership and group assessments used by Transition Transformers®.

The good news is that while IQ is largely fixed, EQ can be developed.  At Transition Transformers® we can help you to assess your EQ through an internationally recognised on-line assessment in the 5 realms of self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal, decision making and stress management.  We provide you with a detailed report and coach you through your report to help you understand your emotional intelligence and how to improve.  We offer 5 EQ assessments:

• EQ-i 2.0 Workplace Report
• EQ-i 2.0 Leadership Report
• EQ-i 2.0 Group Report
• EQ 360 Workplace Report
• EQ 360 Leadership Report

To improve your emotional intelligence, we recommend taking one of the above on-line assessments.  We will then coach you through the report to help you transform your personal and working life.

"Before meeting Ross my performance at work was consistently average and below average.  I found interactions with supervisors and other people hard and came across as lacking confidence.  People would therefore take charge of situations I was involved in and take advantage of me.  My confidence was very low.

Working with Ross was easy.  I found him nice, friendly and approachable.  He listened to me and my problems and was genuinely interested in helping me.  This felt reassuring.  All the meetings I had with Ross were conducted in a calm manner."

Since working with Ross, I am performing at a higher level at work.  I complete tasks with confidence and conviction.  I highly recommend for anyone to take the EQ-i 2.0 emotional intelligence assessment.  This is very accurate and informs you of your strengths and weaknesses.  I can now play to my strengths consistently and I also know how to improve on my weaknesses without this being a problem."
